Can Beginners Do the Annapurna Circuit?

Blog Article

When I first thought about doing the Annapurna Circuit trek, I was a little scared. I had never done a big trek before. But after reading and talking to people, I found out that beginners can complete the Annapurna Circuit trek with good planning. The Annapurna Circuit is about 160 to 230 kilometers long (depending on where you start and end).

The trek usually takes about 12 to 20 days. The highest point is Thorong La Pass, which is 5,416 meters (17,769 feet) high. That sounds scary, but the trek gives your body time to adjust slowly. There are many tea houses and villages along the way where you can eat, rest, and sleep. I found it very helpful to walk slowly, drink a lot of water, and take rest days to avoid getting sick from the high altitude.

Many beginners hire a guide and porter, and that makes a big difference. A guide knows the way, helps in case of any problem, and makes the journey feel safer. A porter carries your heavy bag, so you can walk with just a small daypack. It made my trek so much easier and more fun.

The best time for the Annapurna Circuit trek is during autumn (September to November) or spring (March to May) when the weather is clear and dry. I did my trek in October and enjoyed sunny days and beautiful mountain views every day.

If you are a beginner with a good fitness level and an open heart for adventure, the Annapurna Circuit trek is very possible. It will be one of the best trips of your life!
